Descendant from a Dutch and Italian family, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Marcos attended the Bennett Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. After college, Mr. Vanorden practiced in Rio de Janeiro for three years. In 1992, after traveling extensively, he took a position as Head of the Architecture Department of the SYDA Foundation, an American educational non-profit, in India. In New York, he worked for Colgan Perry Lawler Architects for three years before relocating to San Diego and joining Hayer Architecture in 2003.
Special projects include the Master Plan for a 55-acre school campus for the Indological Research Center near Mumbai, India; the campus’ Student Library; the Rockland County Transportation Department building in New York, as well as residential projects in Brazil, South Asia, New York and San Diego.
